Records, 1898 and 1901-1914, consisting of business and personal papers of William Coleman (1875-1924) re the organization of Glenn-Lowry Manufacturing Company, a Whitmire, S.C., cotton mill designed by W.B. Smith Whaley & Co., of Columbia; the mill was incorporated in 1900 with a capital stock of $500,000 and plans to construct a second mill, Mecklenburg Cotton Mills, in Charlotte, N.C. Includes correspondence re the selection of looms, boilers, and other equipment, requests for employment, the cotton market, the purchase and sale of land and timber in North Carolina and South Carolina, and the settling of an estate. Earlier papers concern Courtenay Manufacturing Company of Newry, S.C.; later papers consist chiefly of bills and receipts.
